Equal Pay Day: How much longer Australian women have to work to earn the same as men

An Australian woman has to work more than 50 days in the next financial year to earn the same as the average man did last financial year. That’s according to new analysis from the Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) using data from the statistics bureau. It’s a slight improvement on last year, when the national figure was 56 days. “Every time it comes down, it’s positive, but 50 days is still a lot of days,” WGEA CEO Mary Wooldridge said. “That’s a lot of extra work that women are doing just to earn the same, on average, that men earned in the previous year.” Source: SBS News WGEA used the Australian Bureau of Statistics’ average weekly earnings data from February to calculate the figure.
